Rock Club is a two-hour class, once per week on Saturdays.
Monthly Cost: $ 00.00 per month
Not just a place to play, a place to belong! Designed for students who know the basics of their instrument and wish to experience the fun of playing in band, this popular program nurtures team skills as students enjoy all aspects of a peer rock band, from name/song selection to reading simple charts and lead sheets, learning harmonies and arrangement, and understanding the musical history of the songs/artists they have chosen to cover.
Students hone music skills while learning their latest favorites as well as the greatest songs in rock and roll history.
Classes build towards a real performance in a rock concert, club or festival setting at the end of each quarter featuring our Rock Club member groups.
Basic rhythm section instruments form each ensemble: guitar, bass, drums, optional keyboard, and vocals. We encourage saxophonists and violinists and bands that include these instruments feature songs that include them. For multiple horns we have our “Vancouver Horn” bands where students perform songs from the large library of horn-based Motown, Soul and rock (Chicago, Blood Sweat & Tears, Earth, Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, Frank Zappa, etc.)
Each Rock Club Band is as unique as its members!
Dave has coached bands to regional talent championships and the PNE Semi-Finals, and is in demand in the BC Public School System as a Rock and Jazz Band Coach. BC teen singer/songwriter Harrison Ivaz is a guest teen Rock Club coach, happy to jam or share songwriting ideas!
Dave and Julie Boton-Ivaz are dedicated rockers who have attended some of music’s most historic tours by legends such as Frank Zappa, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Dave Matthews Band, Paul McCartney, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Van Halen, Metallica, The Who, Peter Gabriel and Genesis, Talking Heads, King Crimson, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, The Grateful Dead and many, many more.
Rock Club with Dave Ivaz is learning with someone who has seen the artists students are performing live – and even met some of them!
Reading music is not necessary but helpful in each Rock Club ensemble. Highly recommended for vocalists, and for all instrumentalists who love Rock ‘N Roll!
